ss between two languages, more precisely, between english and uzbek languages. it includes some theoretical basis about politeness, and the expression of it in two languages. it deals with analyzing two languages and finding some peculiar features of them. the purpose of the paper is putting forward the importance of politeness in communication, revealing some special usage of politeness according to the situation, studying the expression of politeness from cultural perspective and the role of culture in the expression of linguistic politeness in communication. the tasks of the research are as following: -to analyze the previous researches in the field; -to define the notion of “discourse”; -to define the notion of “linguistic politeness”; -to define the notion of “pragmatic competence”; -to reveal some specific features of politeness of uzbek learners of english; -to identify the causes of this differentiation; -to identify the role of a teacher in the formation of …

guage learners. by considering the results, we can come to some conclusions which are applicable to uzbek efl classroom. as far as general conclusions based on the origin of the students go, the uzbek learners used politeness strategies and a majority of the analyzed strategies more frequently than native speakers did. the only two exceptions were the two negative politeness strategies, namely “pre-sequences to directives” and “using deference”. another interesting fact was that the positive politeness strategy “being agreeable” and “hedging” as a negative politeness strategy were found in approximately the same frequency with the uzbek learners and russian-speaking learners. this similarity probably arises from the fact that learners, as well as teachers, irrespective of their origin, should adopt a native-like way of speaking, and therefore the use of politeness is to some extent alike among english teachers. recommendation based on the analysis of the discourse of politeness of uzbek …
