perception [8, p. 69]. borrowing as a process of using elements of one language in another is associated with the contradictory nature of the linguistic sign: its arbitrariness, which allows borrowing by force, and involuntariness as a borrowing factor that prevents borrowing. apparently, this explains why the process of external borrowing in modern english, as in other languages, is rather unproductive [5, p. 6]. according to available data, it is significantly inferior to such nomination processes as semantic inference and word formation. however, this does not mean that the percentage of borrowed vocabulary in modern english is not so large. the composition of the english language is filled with approximately 75% borrowed vocabulary from 50 languages of the world. this happened in different historical eras and under the influence of different conditions of development and existence. among borrowings, we can distinguish the following groups of lexical units: political, geographical, cultural, …
