ict. martin eden is an autobiographical novel by jack london, published in 1909. the work became not only one of the writer’s artistic achievements, but also an important stage in the development of american critical realism. it creatively implements the principle formulated by london long before writing the novel: literature should become “an effective means to awaken the dormant conscience of people and involve them in the struggle for humanity”. "martin eden" is a transition from 19th century realism to a new type of realism. in the novel, the writer revealed one of the “eternal themes” of world literature - the theme of the struggle of a creative person with unyielding material, with the tastes of the public, with the need to sell his art, with his own human weaknesses. originally created as a work debunking individualism, martin eden turned into a genuine author's confession. the novel “martin eden” reflects …
